Great Ideas for Parties

Birthday Party Themes: My husband and myself decided that we would have a small party just for the family for my daughters 1st Birthday. I decided to go with the theme "Strawberries & Toadstools Tea Party". So the colour scheme was red, white and a little green. This worked out so well I thought I might share it. Its amazing what you can find on the internet and I managed to find a site which showed step-by-step how to make toadstool invitations from cardboard (http://www.make-it-do.com/make-it/toadstool-invitations/). I made these invitations for the family and printed pictures of strawberries which were stuck on inside (where the toadstool cap slides to the side). The picture below to the right is the one I retrieved from the website and shows a handmade toadstool invitation. I made extra of these cardboard toadstools to stick on doors etc. for the party (after the party I put them on the windows in my daughter’s bedroom to add a little decor).

We found a little red and white polka dot dress for my daughter and I made her a little necklace with a strawberry pendant on it.

The cake was magnificent, made by a lady friend of the family; it was a 3D standing toadstool cake with icing sugar strawberries strewn round the base. The toadstool cap lifted off to reveal that the stem was in fact a glass vase that had been iced and which was filled with strawberry flavoured chocolates. All of the food provided at the party maintained a strawberry and mushroom theme, so all of the savoury snacks at

the party had mushrooms in or was a mushroom dish of some kind and all of the sweet treats had strawberries in. Even the jug of water on the food table had chopped up strawberries in to flavour the water a little.

For the thank you cards (which I gave to everyone as a keepsake for coming to the party), I had pictures of my daughter taken in a little fairy outfit sitting on some garden decoration toadstools, these photos were used as the front of the thank you cards. I have included some pictures for you I hope this helps you with some of your ideas.

Restaurant Party Theme: Your children tired of those traditional old birthday parties? running on a very tight budget? This idea is wonderful for something different. A very dear friend of mine gave her daughter a birthday party 'with a difference', she told her daughter to invite a few friends over for a formal dinner, each of the little girls had to come dressed in formal evening wear just as if they were going out to an upmarket restaurant. My friend and her husband dressed as the waitrons and decked the dining room table for a formal dinner party theme. When the girls arrived they were seated and their orders were taken and each dish was brought out and served to them as if they were in a real restaurant. Apparently the party was a huge success; all the friends were absolutely thrilled and had a fantastic time.

Shopping Party Theme: I once knew a wonderful lady who told me about an idea for a children’s party that she had done. Her son owned a plastic toy till (that looked and worked just like a real till), so she decided to do a 'shopping theme'. She cleared out the items on the shelving in her garage and she baked a number of cakes and cookies and bought some sweets and cool drinks for the party which were used to stock these shelves. The toy till was placed in front just like a convenient store and as each child arrived they were given a little shopping basket and a bag of gold coins (the chocolate coins covered in gold foil that you can get at the sweet shops which they were able to use to purchase whichever of the sweets and cookies they wanted. A really darling idea that we thought was worth mentioning f mine gave her daughter a birthday party 'with a difference', she told her daughter to invite a few friends over for a formal dinner, each of the little girls had to come dressed in formal evening wear just as if they were going out to an upmarket restaurant.
